About the Artist: Sachi Rome
“As I listen to Bitches Brew, I was fascinated by the levels of change and harmony. The random yet controlled way the music built an entire visual world helped me visualize a space where energy and vibration take color and line to play together to create a meditative and easy vibe.
The music just takes you for a ride. The works reflect what I imagine the sound looks like.”
— Sachi Rome
Sachi’s work is a reflection of her obsession with color and the human face. It centers primarily on the black female giving her agency and empowering her with ecofeminism. Her images reflect her being at one with nature and being nature (she is) there is an otherness, a mysticism there. Elements of color and collage through the use of mixed media are also thematic components of the work.
Sachi has studied under the critically acclaimed African American artist Louis Delsarte, in Atlanta Ga. She is a painter and mixed media artist exploring the idea of memory, portraiture, and the dignity of using and giving new life to discarded things. The use of Bible and hymnal pages from her grandmother’s collection are a driving force in many of the images she creates. Sachi moves from abstract to figurative in an ever-changing journey to create portraits of those lost and unknown.
Her work has been acquired by the Fulton County 2018 Arts Acquisition and sits in the collection of private collectors throughout the United States. Sachi’s work has been featured in New York at the Barrett Center , September Gray Gallery , Lyndon House,Swan Coach House, Mason Fine Art, TILA Studios, Sinclair Gallery, Auburn Ave. Research Library and among others. Her murals and public art can be seen throughout the city of Atlanta, along the Westside Trail on the Atlanta Beltline, Old Fourth Ward, Five Points, and at Blue Heron Nature Preserve.
She is currently a TCP 2020-2022 Artist in Resident with a studio in downtown Atlanta. As a 2018 Garden Fellow Sachi attended Art Basel Miami with TILA Studios and exhibited work at the Perez Art Museum during the Women Empowerment Brunch. Sachi Rome has been mentioned in Forbes, The NY Times and in Huffington Post, for being apart of the More than 4 initiative, to increase black women representation at Art Basel Miami.
